The Artistry of Bavid Byrne...in with the old AND in with the new

David Byrne
The Songs of David Byrne & Brian Eno

Friday after work, mom came to pick me up at work, then we dashed over to pick dad up at work to head up to Griffith Park to see David Byrne. We made it in great time and had ample time to get food, get comfy and hang out before David Byrne made his appearance in stage. He finally shows and commenced to play music from his newest album, for which he and Brian Eno collaborated. Albeit new music, his style and sound were not overlooked. After the third song, the audience I think was just so appreciative to be in the presence of an artist that still creates quality music, clapped and cheered him on for at least five minutes straight. He stood, center stage, completely flabbergasted by his support and welcoming. It was only the beginning of a wonderful night. He then proceeded to not only play newer material, but finally reverted to his Talking Heads days!

Our seats were pretty far back, but the venue isn't THAT large, so every seat in the house is good.

Well, he played his concert, his original set. That did not suffice or nearly come close to quenching our want to hear more. I counted about 4 to 5 encores. And about 2/3 of the way through the concert, a man came up to us and asked if we'd be interested in sitting in a VIP box. He gave us three tickets and we moved ourselves down to Box 15, just after the first dozen rows of seats!

David Byrne was in reaching distance!

Here are just a couple snippets I snuck in from the back of the venue. They are clips from a new piece...
